Reclaiming the Plate: Why Coffee, Crusts, and Fasting are Keeping You Stressed
If you have come to the realization that the whole "coffee and leftover crusts" survival strategy isn’t working for you, then keep reading.
There is a very good biological reason why skipping meals, living on green smoothies, and generally neglecting your own diet is keeping you locked in a stress loop. It’s not just your weight that suffers; your entire nervous system takes the hit.
Food is not a weapon to control your weight. Food is the structural nourishment required for every single process in your body, from metabolic function to nervous system regulation. It is literally the keystone holding the whole she-bang together.
The Intermittent Fasting Trap
I know intermittent fasting is the darling of the wellness world right now, but I need you to question why you are doing it. If you are doing it solely to force weight loss, your focus is in the wrong place.
The weight went on for a combination of reasons. Stress, deep exhaustion, and shifting perimenopausal hormones are much bigger driving factors here—and full fasting directly contributes to every single one of them. While fasting can be great for some people, if you are chronically stressed, utterly exhausted, or perimenopausal, please don’t do it. Your body doesn't need a famine; it needs safety.
The Biological "Trust Issues"
When you skip meals, you create wildly dysregulated blood sugar levels. This goes way beyond simply feeling "hangry." It leads to erratic energy spikes, intense cravings, and a state of insatiability. That relentless feeling where you literally cannot eat enough.
Why does this happen? Because a stressed body cannot trust that you will feed it again.
When your brain lacks a predictable supply of glucose, it triggers the release of hunger-regulating chemicals like Neuropeptide Y to force your body to hoard energy. Simultaneously, low glucose severely impairs your brain's capacity for emotional regulation. The science shows that a drop in blood sugar directly drives up anxiety, irritability, and a tendency to completely lose your temper (Wang & Wu, 2022). When fuel is unpredictable, your survival signals get completely confused.
This is exactly why your body feels like it's short-circuiting when you run on empty.
You might experience a total lack of patience, difficulty thinking clearly, or an inability to make basic decisions. Your brain’s absolute favorite food is glucose, and when you eat sporadically or choose improperly balanced meals, your brain struggles to regulate everything from your emotions to your movements. It's not a good look.
Back to Basics: The Grey Area
Luckily, the solution is beautifully simple. And no, the answer is not constant snacking either.
We need to find the functional grey area between eating too frequently and not frequently enough. Back to basics we go, and voila: three well-rounded meals a day is the perfect balance.
The key here is that they must contain a clean balance of protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats. And don’t be fooled into thinking carbs only come in a packet of pasta or a loaf of bread. Your best carbohydrates are vegetables, fruits, and pulses, which also happen to ensure you get enough fiber to keep your bowels moving daily.
Basics first, always.
Getting it Right for Your Body
Just getting your blood sugar regulated can make a massive, immediate difference to your daily sanity. But imagine what would happen if you also got the exact nutrient profile your unique body actually needs?
Yeah, okay, look... I do have a program for this! Lol.
I both love and hate talking about Metabolic Balance because it is the absolute gold standard for metabolic health and perimenopause, but it’s also hard to sing its praises without sounding like I'm giving you a massive sales pitch. It ensures your nervous system is deeply nourished and loved. It is the lifestyle foundation you can keep going back to for the rest of your life.
Instead of listening to me run on about it, go check my Google reviews, I’ll let my clients tell you their stories. Honestly, if there is one thing I could do for myself over and over, it would be this program.
If you are ready to stop starving your nervous system and start rebuilding your metabolism, let's look at the chemistry together.
